Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with President Donald Trump on the phone this morning. Trump described the conversation as very meaningful and expressed his eagerness to meet Carney in person soon. During their first phone conversation, the two leaders found agreement on numerous issues.
Interestingly, Trump referred to Carney as “Prime Minister” while he had previously referred to former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor.” In a social media post, Trump stated, “We agree on many things,” and added that he plans to meet with Carney immediately after the Canadian elections, which he believes will be beneficial for both Canada and the United States.
Trump also thanked Carney for his attention to pressing matters. This positive exchange between the two leaders comes at a time when Canada is in the midst of an intense election atmosphere. Trump’s remarks suggest he anticipates Carney’s success in the elections.
