The Supreme Court, while praising Dallewal, referred to him as a true farmer leader.
Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has ended his hunger strike after 123 days, according to the state government during a hearing on the farmers' issue in the Supreme Court.
Punjab government Advocate General Gurminder Singh informed the top court that Dallewal ended his fast to the death by drinking water today. He had been on hunger strike since November 26. The Supreme Court, while praising Dallewal, referred to him as a true farmer leader who raised the genuine issues of the farming community without any political agenda.
The court remarked that it was aware that some individuals did not want the grievances of farmers to be addressed. On the other hand, farmer leader Abhimanyu Kohar completely rejected the government's claim, stating that Dallewal's fast had not ended, and that he had only consumed water, with the hunger strike still ongoing.
