President Trump has announced a delay in the plan to impose tariffs on Canada and Mexico, with the new deadline set for April 2. The president made this statement during his first cabinet meeting in Washington on Wednesday. Just two days earlier, Trump had indicated that the tariffs would take effect on March 4.

A White House official also suggested that the tariff plan could be adjusted through ongoing negotiations, creating continued uncertainty around the issue.

In response, the Canadian Labour Congress has called for an emergency online meeting tonight to discuss the potential impact of the US tariffs on workers and communities. Union leaders representing over three million workers from across Canada will participate in the meeting. According to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, around 2.3 million Canadian jobs are directly linked to exports to the US.
