Poilievre Announces Policy Against U.S. Tariffs and Responds to Party Standing in Polls

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced today during an election campaign in Coquitlam, B.C., that if former President Donald Trump does not withdraw tariffs on Canada, a Conservative government will aim to completely eliminate Canada’s dependence on the United States. Poilievre warned that such action would result in the U.S. losing an important trading partner.

When questioned by reporters about the Conservative Party’s decline in polls—falling behind the Liberals and Mark Carney in most surveys—Poilievre stated that it is up to Canadians to decide. He urged voters to choose between the Conservatives, who he claimed are rebuilding Canada, cutting taxes, and making housing affordable, and the Liberals, who he accused of causing significant damage to the country in recent years.
