Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada stands with the people of Austria, following last night's deadly mass shooting by an Islamic extremist.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada stands with the people of Austria, following last night's deadly mass shooting by an Islamic extremist.

Four people were killed and more than a dozen injured when the man opened fire in a crowded nightlife district before he was shot dead by police.

Trudeau condemned the attack and other recent violent incidents in France and at Kabul University in Afghanistan.

"Canada is prepared to work with whoever wins today's US presidential election"

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is prepared to work with whoever wins today's US presidential election.

Trudeau notes his government has had to push back against some of the Trump administration's policies, but the two countries have continued to work together on other issues.

Trudeau says he'll watch the results tonight, though he acknowledges that declaring a definite winner could take days or even weeks.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians are fortunate that the COVID-19 pandemic has not become as politically charged in this country as it is in the US.

Trudeau says governments here have worked together to fight the coronavirus, in contrast to the situation south of the border.

The campaign has largely been a referendum on US President Donald Trump's handling of the virus, which has killed more than 230,000 Americans and is worsening in nearly every state.
