The Ministry of Transportation says anyone mulling a road trip for the BC Day long weekend should plan ahead and expect heavy traffic.

A statement from the Ministry says delays are likely on Highway 5, the Coquihalla Highway, as repairs are still underway after last fall's catastrophic rainstorms, floods and washouts.

The heat wave that is causing sweltering conditions in many parts of B-C is also expected to continue until at least Monday and the ministry says motorist should plan for that, too.

Drivers are advised to pack lots of water for people and pets and to ensure their vehicles can handle a long, hot drive.
