The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT), in partnership with the Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD), have obtained charges against a 48-year-old man.

On July 28, 2022, at around 4:44 p.m., Abbotsford Police Department (AbbyPD) responded to an assault at a residence in the 2900-block of Eastview Street, in Abbotsford. On arrival, AbbyPD found a 45-year-old woman with serious injuries, who was treated by paramedics but sadly, died at scene. AbbyPD located a 48-year-old man at the scene and took him into custody. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was contacted, and now has assumed control of the investigation.

IHIT is working in partnership with AbbyPD, the AbbyPD Forensic Identification Section (FIS), and the BC Coroners Service. The scene exam is ongoing and statements have been taken. On July 29, 2022, IHIT consulted with the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) and obtained 1st degree murder charges against 48-year-old Inderjit Sandhu in the death Kamaljit Sandhu. The accused and the deceased have two children, ages 16 and 21, who are now with their extended family.

"This was traumatic to all the family and neighbours," said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, "support services and resources are being made available to all those who need it."

This investigation is ongoing. No further details will be provided as this matter is now before the Courts.
