Bollywood director Kiran Rao's film Laapataa Ladies has been chosen as India’s official submission for the 2025 Oscars, the Film Federation of India revealed recently.
Among the contenders for India's official Oscar entry were several notable films, including Sandeep Reddy Vanga's highly anticipated Animal, featuring the charismatic Ranbir Kapoor, as well as the Malayalam National Award-winning Aattam and the acclaimed Cannes winner All We Imagine As Light. Each of these films has garnered significant attention for their compelling storytelling and artistic merit, showcasing the rich tapestry of Indian cinema on the global stage.
Other noteworthy films in the mix included the Tamil feature Maharaja, the Telugu productions Kalki 2898 AD and Hanu-Man, alongside Hindi films Swatantraya Veer Savarkar and Article 370. Notably, last year, the Malayalam blockbuster 2018: Everyone is a Hero represented India at the Oscars, highlighting the diverse cinematic talent the country has to offer.
