Bollywood actress, filmmaker, and politician Kangana Ranaut is all set for the release of her highly anticipated and controversial film, Emergency, which is scheduled to hit theaters on January 17. After months of delays and multiple rescheduled release dates, the film’s trailer has finally been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the intense narrative it promises.

The trailer opens with Anupam Kher, portraying Jayaprakash Narayan, writing a letter to Kangana Ranaut's character, Indira Gandhi. In the letter, Narayan warns that the Prime Minister's chair is no longer just a position of power but a "raging lion" whose roar will reverberate across the globe. This sets the stage for the pivotal moment in India’s history when Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in 1975, a decision that dramatically altered the course of the country’s post-independence trajectory.

The trailer dives deep into the themes of institutional brutality, systemic violence, and the 'murder of democracy,' offering a stark portrayal of a turbulent period in Indian history.

Audiences are also introduced to key historical figures, with Shreyas Talpade playing Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, and Vishak Nair portraying Sanjay Gandhi. The casting choices have been widely praised for their accuracy and the film's commitment to bringing these historical personalities to life.

With the trailer now out, Emergency is poised to spark discussions and debates when it releases next week.
