The Russian government is set to introduce a new law that will prohibit the promotion of discouraging childbearing within the country. Any posts or videos that advocate against having children will be banned from social media platforms.

On November 12, the lower house of the Russian Parliament passed a proposal related to this law. It is scheduled to be presented in the upper house on November 20. If approved, the bill will then be sent to President Vladimir Putin for final approval.

Once the law receives the President’s approval, it will come into effect. Russia is facing concerns over its declining population. In June, fewer than 100,000 children were born, while more than 600,000 people have been killed or maimed since the war in Ukraine, further exacerbating the country’s demographic challenges.
