Bhagwant Mann Condemns Handcuffing of Deported Indians by the US

BY Connect Newsroom, Feb 6, 2025 5:19 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

Reports indicate that the deportees were transported in handcuffs and shackles.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly criticized the handcuffing and shackling of deported Indians by the United States, calling it a regrettable and shameful act for the country. In a social media post, Mann expressed his disapproval of the treatment meted out to deportees.

He also criticized the Haryana government, accusing it of insensitivity. Mann claimed that instead of offering support to mentally and economically distressed deportees, the Haryana government sent police vehicles used for prisoners to receive its residents, which he equated to adding insult to injury.

Notably, a US Army C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying 104 deportees from various Indian states, including Punjab and Haryana, landed at the Amritsar Air Force base yesterday. Reports indicate that the deportees were transported in handcuffs and shackles.
