Comedian Shyam Rangeela, who submitted his nomination papers on Tuesday to contest the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, announced on Wednesday evening that his nomination was rejected "on the grounds that he did not take the oath."
The 29-year-old from Rajasthan, known for his impressions of Prime Minister Modi, had filed as an Independent candidate.
Shyam went on to explain that his nomination has been rejected,” They do not want me to contest here. They accepted my nomination papers after 3 pm on Tuesday (the last day for filing nominations), while I was alone. As a first timer, I did not know the process. No one informed me that I needed to take an oath. Now, they are saying my papers were rejected because I did not take an oath," Rangeela explained.
